At the start of the 2013-14 school year, all Kentucky school personnel were required to have annual training in positive behavioral interventions and supports pursuant to 704 KAR 7:160, The Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion in Public Schools, Section 6(1).

Restraint and Seclusion - All Staff

The production of new Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) modules will begin late this summer. Unfortunately, due to a late start, the videos will not be available before the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. The regulation outlining the use of physical restraint and seclusion in public schools (704 KAR 7:160) states that all staff shall be trained annually. However, the regulation does not state specific information related to when or how the training will be conducted. Districts who wish to complete the required annual training prior to the start of the 2016-2017 school year should utilize the training modules from previous years. This training also should include, as required by regulation, the district's policies/procedures and the relevant Kentucky Administrative Regulation.
